At the risk of becoming a cliche this Thanksgiving, I hope this post finds you EGC Acolytes fat and happy with you and yours around a plump holiday turkey. I realize that not everyone celebrates Turkey Day and that I have an international readership(which is still rad to me), so to you, I’ll just say I hope today was as good a day for you as it was for me. Today is my obligatory “Things I’m grateful for” Thanksgiving post. Sort of.

Later next month will be the one-year anniversary since I decided to take the plunge and move from blogging on the amino app to trying to craft my own blog. Its been a year of learning experiences, filled with ups and downs in my personal life and in the vaulted digital halls of the blogosphere. I am thankful that I have been gifted with a passion and the stubbornness of a mule, as it seems I never really know when to quit. I’m also very thankful to you guys, the small community which has cropped up around Evil Geek Cult.

In between stuffing my face with delicious food that my dad cooked and spending time with family, I took the opportunity to reconnect with the content that you guys make and content from other bloggers. Whether you are a blogger, podcaster, Youtuber, or any other sort of online creator, getting noticed on the internet can at times be an all-consuming struggle. For the inexperienced, it can be real easy to get bogged down by the metrics of it all or the lack thereof. To all the young creators out there, I say to you now that success is not built overnight. It is a house built brick by brick through sunshine and hurricanes, without the guidance of an instruction manual, but it is up to you and you alone to define your success.

I hope that if you are a creator, you will take some time after reading this to reconnect with the content of the people who support you. Its something that can really easily fall through the cracks as your content grows in size and spectrum, but that is when your interactions with your community count the most. Even the smallest flames can be coaxed into raging fires with the right guidance.

In essence, I just wanted to reach out to you guys and express my gratitude. My father, brother, and I will be recording a new episode of the podcast this weekend(Gaming With Papa Smerph II) and I’ve convinced someone brand new to the podcast to do a Star Trek focused episode with me, so I am excited about that. I’ve also got a fantasy book review in mind for Sunday(its another video game tie-in novel for you Dragon Age fans) and Tuesday I’ll be talking about horror’s puritan values. See y’all then!
